The staff at Revolution Pittsburgh is looking forward to the 2021 season. At Revolution Volleyball Club, our purpose it to build up the hearts, minds and bodies of young people. The length of a club volleyball season provides the opportunity for each individual athlete and team to demonstrate growth in a variety of areas (i.e., athleticism, sport-specific techniques, volleyball “IQ,” and intangibles). These four pillars serve as a design framework for both practice and competition. We are proud of the girls for their hard work and success for the past two years. We also appreciate and value the relationships that developed between the athletes, parents and staff. These are important elements of the overall program.
Revolution Volleyball will have a new home for the 2020-2021 season! We are moving into GRIT Athletix for all practices and hosted events, and we are thrilled to have a consistent practice location with a great space and supportive management. GRIT is located at 2920 McKelvey Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15221. This is on the East side of the Squirrel Hill tunnels. To alleviate any potential travel/traffic concerns, we have strategically placed two of our three practice times on the weekends.
Teams and Ages:
We are anticipating fielding eight teams this season. This reflects a bit of growth for the club, but we continue to maintain a priority of quality of program over quantity of teams. We have made these plans in light of a growth in staff and the dedicated space we have to work with at GRIT. We also want to ensure that each team has an age/skill-appropriate training partner. We anticipate having one team at 12s and 13s, one Open/National level team at 14s, 15s, 16s, 17s, and 18s, and a second team at either the 14s or 15s level to pair with the 14s. (no more than 8 total teams)
Our current practice schedule is as follows:
Wednesday – 5:30pm to 7:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm
Saturday – 8:00am to 10:00am
Sunday – 12:30pm-2:00pm and 2:00pm-4:00pm
Open training sessions for Rev and non-Rev members, Tu/Th 4:30pm-5:30pm (additional fee)
You will need to have a Google account (Gmail) to register for tryouts. Please be logged in to your Gmail before clicking the link to register. We would prefer to see and evaluate athletes in large groups over longer tryout time slots. Given the restrictions and current head count limits for COVID safety, we have establish an effective way to run tryouts for this season.
Sunday, October 25 (skills evaluation)
Tuesday, October 27 (team concepts and live play evaluation)
Wednesday, October 28 will be used for any makeups or overflow
All ages: Times TBD
Sunday, November 15 (skills evaluation)
Tuesday, November 17 (team concepts and live play evaluation)
Wednesday, November 18 will be used for any makeups or overflow
All ages: Times TBD
If you cannot make it to a tryout session for your age group, please notify us at [email protected] so we can try to arrange other means of assessment.
The GRIT facility has three separate sectioned off court spaces. Under the current safety guidelines for COVID 19, there will be a 25 person head-count limit for each of these three spaces, which will include the Rev staff who are on the courts. For tryouts, we will only be able to evaluate approximately 60-65 total athletes per age group. It is critical that you pre-register for tryouts because in all likelihood, we will not accept walk-ins on Sunday or Tuesday of tryouts. Please be sure to read any emails that we may send alerting you to an assigned session or a need to be seen on the “overflow” day if our number of participants exceeds what we can fit. Additionally, we will only be allowing athletes to enter GRIT at the time of tryouts. All check-in and registration procedures will be handled virtually and through digital submissions using Google Forms.
We will be holding a virtual information session via Zoom on October 18, 2020. This will allow families to hear about Revolution, meet some of our staff, understand our club philosophy and training model, and ask any questions about this upcoming season. The meeting will start at 8:00 PM. Click Pittsburgh Information Zoom Meeting

The priority this season will be on quality training for all athletes and recruiting/exposure in whatever form that can take for our older athletes. We are looking at new ways to help our athletes with recruiting in a time when future college opportunities are changing and when showcasing talent may have to happen in a different atmosphere. Tournaments will be icing on the cake, as large, multi-day events may not be possible this season in the months we normally would be competing.
- Addition of new staff to support athletes with recruiting
- Use of cameras and live streaming during practices to showcases our athletes
- Hosting of Rev Showcases to bring in college coaches to evaluate our athletes and those from the area (discount price for Rev players)
- Continued use of SportsRecruits as a recruiting tool
- Printing of promotional materials to distribute to coaches while teams are on the road
- Improved website to publicize our athletes (new photos and bio piece)
- Support to our athletes from all staff to help guide the college search and find the right fit
The thing we are most excited about for the upcoming season is our STAFF! We have been able to gather an amazing group of coaches to work with our Rev athletes for this season, and we are looking forward to continuing to build on the culture and climate in the gym that makes us Revolution. Our website is being updated to include photos and bios to introduce you to our coaches. We will have ten new coaches joining us this season! Each team will be supported with their own Head and Assistant Coach.
